The Lines That Bind Us

Project Description

This bronze art piece presents a topographic map of the border wall, meticulously crafted to symbolize the complex geography that divides Mexico and the United States. Broken into multiple interconnected segments, each piece is linked by chain links, evoking a sense of both fragmentation and connection. The artist employs a blend of advanced CAD design techniques and CNC machine technology, complemented by carefully hand-crafted elements, to convey a poignant narrative. Made specifically for the La Frontera collaboration between SDSU and Artist Without Borders, this artwork highlights the stark contrast between the unifying force of nature and the divisive barrier that the wall represents. It serves as a powerful commentary on the struggles and loss associated with the border, prompting viewers to reflect on the physical and emotional separations that exist, while also reminding us of the inherent connections that unite us as human beings.
