Luck of the Draw

Project Description

This piece was created during Georgina Treviño’s workshop as part of the collaboration between SDSU’s Jewelry Coop and Artists without Borders. It transforms everyday found and used materials into a thought-provoking commentary on luck and inequality. At its core lies a vibrant UNO card, symbolizing the unpredictable nature of chance and the games we play in life. The number 7 on the face of the card is also widely known to represent insight and luck. Intertwined with this is a crumpled dollar bill, representing the economic disparities that shape our experiences. Together, these elements create a visual narrative that invites viewers to reflect on the luck we encounter and the varying fortunes we face. The contrasting textures and colors of the materials highlight the diverse paths we walk, encouraging a deeper understanding of how luck influences our lives and the inequalities that often accompany it. This project serves as a poignant reminder that while luck may play a role in our journeys, awareness and empathy can bridge the gaps between us.
