Ebb and Flow

Project Description

This piece is a sterling silver ring that encapsulates the duality of the ocean—its fluid grace and formidable power. Crafted with organic wave shapes that flow seamlessly around the band, the design captures the gentle movement of water, embodying the ocean's allure and serenity. In contrast, sharp, knife-like structures jut outward at one end, symbolizing the hidden dangers and fierce currents that can threaten those who dare to navigate its depths. This ring was made specifically for a collaboration between the La Frontera Exhibition, a show highlighting border artists and experiences, and SDSU’s art students. It serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by many immigrants who attempt to cross the Pacific Ocean in search of safety and a better life. It reflects their resilience and the perilous choices they make, highlighting the often-overlooked realities of their journeys. The piece is not just a work of art; it is a conversation starter that invites reflection on the complexities of migration and the lengths to which individuals go to overcome barriers in pursuit of hope.
