Toxic Touch
Project Description
This piece intricatley weaves together copper and enamel to create a powerful visual narrative of the coral reef’s delicate balance. The bracelet features organic and jagged forms that mimic the natural shapes of coral. There is a spectrum of vibrant red colors that represent reefs in their prime but as the eye travels across the piece, the colors gradually fade into muted tones and tarnished copper symbolizing the degradation and fragility of these ecosystems. The juxtaposition of the bold enamel hues against the oxidized copper serves as a poignant reminder of what has been lost, while also embodying hope for restoration and resilience. The use of red and the placement on the hand reminds viewers of the power and destruction we as humans hold. Overall this artwork invites viewers to reflect on the beauty of coral reefs and the urgent need to protect their future.
