Garbage Garden: A Coral Reef in Crisis

Project Description

In “Garbage Garden”, I confront the devastating reality of ocean pollution and its suffocating grasp on our planet’s vital coral reefs. Through a juxtaposition of patinated copper and recycled plastic, I wanted to create a hauntingly beautiful representation of the coral growth that is slowly being consumed by the overwhelming presence of plastic waste. As the plastic tendrils entwine and twist around the copper, I aim to evoke a sense of unease and urgency, highlighting the consequences of our throwaway culture. This piece serves as a reminder of the importance of taking action to mitigate the damage already done, and to foster a more sustainable future for our planet’s most vulnerable inhabitants.
